Dirty Thirties

My story is based on the dust bowl and the stock market crash in the thirties.  My characters are Chaka, and Oswald Brown.  You have to make your own choices.  If you pass it you win.  What i like about this project was it was awesome.  Me and my partner worked on for two weeks with a lot of brainstorming and ideas.

Interview Essay

Interview Essay

My dad inspires me.  He taught me to do things right the first time.  My dad is 39 years old and has lived in O’Neill ever since he was 8 years old.  He is a graduate of St.Mary’s and has lived here ever since.  He works for my grandpa and himself too.
My dad, Jeff has done a lot for our family and I’m grateful that he is my father.  He was born in Cambridge, Nebraska on October 31, 1975.  He lived in Atkinson, Nebraska until 1983.  In 1983 my grandmother bought a flower shop in town, which is now Sunrise Floral.  When my grandparents  moved here they rented houses until they finally came to the conclusion to buy the house they still occupy today.  My dad’s best friend, Aaron Walters lived about a 1/4 mile down the road from where they live.  They would go hunting, ride four wheelers, bikes, street bikes and many more things.  They practically grew up with each other.  To this day Aaron’s parents still own the same house and so does my grandparents.  Aaron still lives here too.  My dad, Aaron, and I go target shooting and hang out.  My dad graduated in 1994.
My dad works at AJ Feeders Supply which is owned by my grandpa.  My dad dispatches 2 trucks and also drives a truck for himself.  He hauls grain, potatoes, popcorn, cattle, and shortly he will be hauling rock.  He decided to work there because my grandpa needed help.  My dad started working their in 1997.  He has been working there for 18 years and is still.
The lesson my dad has learned in life is don’t live in the past and learn from your mistakes.  My dad taught me to work hard and do things right the first time.  My dad is most proud of his family and we love him too.  If my dad could change one thing in life it would be that he took the chances or if he could go back and do the things he passed up on.

My dad inspires me the most because he works hard and supports his family.  Just like I will too someday.  Things wouldn’t be the same without my dad, because he takes me shooting, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, jeeping, and he does fun things with me.

Australia Travel Report

  Australia

Do you like swimming?  If you do then you’ve came to the right place.  Australia has 10,685 beaches for you to bask in the sun or go out for a swim.  It has blue water that is crystal clear.  You can fish, dive, snorkel, surf, kayak, and more!  They also have many animal species.  If you like to hunt you can hunt kangaroos.  Today I will be teaching you about the animals, fun things to do, climate, and the land.

There are over 4000 species of fish, 378 mammal species, 878 species of birds, 300 lizard species, 140 snake species, 2 crocodile species, 50 types of marine animals, and they also have penguins.  Who would have thought that Australia would have penguins, since it is not cold.  Australia is home of the tasmanian devil, Taz off of Looney Tunes is one too.  Koala bears, monotremes, which is the platypus and the echidna and dingos live their too.  Dingos are dogs of the plains Australia’s two crocodiles are the saltwater and
the freshwater crocodiles.

Some of the activities include; swimming, snorkeling, diving, sailing, surfing and many more.  There is also snowboarding and skiing.  I would have never imagined that they receive snowfall.  You can also go hiking or biking in the mountains, valleys, or just on the trails.  Don’t be fooled, Australia is definitely worth the money to go.

The climate in Australia is warm and sunny.  Australia has the school of air, which is for children in remote areas of the outback.  They receive radio transmissions to be taught, in meaning, teachers message the kids with radios.  Australia has 10,685 beaches.  Australia is the only continent that is also a country.  Did you know that Australia was once a British colony?  It is home of the Great Barrier Reef.  It can be seen from outer space. Now thats what I call a big reef.

Australia is a very beautiful and fun country.  If you ever get the chance to go to Australia, GO!  I would like to go personally by myself and just explore the country.  Thanks for listening, and I hope that it is your next destination.

College Essay

Ever since I shot my first gun I was fascinated.  Guns fascinate me, that is why I want to become a gunsmith.  I then can repair and redo other people’s guns.  Gunsmithing takes a lot of money to get started, so you want to maybe have another job.  People think guns are useless and dangerous, but they aren’t.  They help us get food and they're a good investment.  Guns can only be controlled by the user.  What would you do if the grocery stores weren’t here anymore, well you hunt for your family.  Guns are a big part of my life, and that is why I want to go to college for a gunsmith.

My goals for my future is to become a gunsmith and go to college like Trinidad State College.  Some gunsmithing schools have sports to.  In gunsmithing school they have work spaces with tons of tools to create your own gun.  Guns can come in all sorts of calibers.  Their accuracy all depends on it’s rifling.  Think of rifling as a spiral football throw, the more the spiral the better accuracy it’s going to have.  It spins the bullet so when it comes out of the barrel it’s stabilized by it’s spinning motion.  Gunsmiths can also fabricate parts for guns.  For an example; lets say John has a Marlin Model 43 12 Gauge shotgun and it needs a new firing pin, well he can’t get the firing pin that he needs because they aren’t made anymore, well a good gunsmith should be able to make one.  Gunsmiths are very important to the people out in the sticks, who cant get parts anymore and need them for their deer rifle to be able to fire.  Gunsmiths can also make a lot of money.

College education will help me reach my goals because it will teach me how to create guns and repair them.  College will help me make correct measurements, which is important so your gun wont blow up because the barrel is two small for the bullet but the chamber is the right size for the cartridge.  I will also need to make rifling for guns that needs a new barrel.  You have to be very precise with creating rifling, one flaw can screw up the bullet’s stability in flight and make it tumble instead of spin, which is not accurate at all.  I also will learn how to recrown gun barrels.  When you have a bad part of a barrel or want it cut down you will want to recrown the barrel so it whirls out of the barrel correctly.  I will be able to refinish them, in meaning redoing the wood and re-blue the barrel.  I can also make barrels and stocks.  A gun stock takes the recoil and makes the gun more comfortable.  You can’t hold the gun receiver and the barrel in your hand and expect to fire it and have it not kick or feel uncomfortable.

The people who inspire me is my grandpa and my dad.  My grandpa taught my dad how to hunt and took him hunting.  My dad passed that on to me and I can teach my kids someday how to hunt.  My dad also taught me about guns.  My dad works hard.  My grandpa also works hard.  My dad and grandpa always tells me to work hard and do your task right the first time, so then you don’t have to redo it.  Time is money and I won’t have time to redo a mistake I made, especially as a gunsmith.

College is very important to achieve my goal, without colleges who would teach us how to do things.  I’m looking forward to college already.  I will be excited when I graduate high school.  Gunsmithing college takes about 2 years to complete it.  It has a lot of workspace too.  Thank you for reading and I hope you learned a little bit about guns and where I want to go to college.

Fort Randall Dam Poem

We drive in
with camper and boat lined
up like a train
we meet our friends
me and my friends
go down below
the dam
we fish
my friend gets a snag
he keeps pulling
you can hear the fishing pole,
WHOP!
AHHHH!
the pole broke
and hit him like
a whip in the back
he's crying
we see his back
WOW!
it looks like a whip
did hit him
his mom calms him down
it was his
dad's pole
afraid that
his dad would be mad
he tells him
his mom backs him up
his dad understands
we gather around
the campfire
use the Can Cooker
I'm dared to eat
a minnow cooked
FINE!
I put the minnow
in the can
put it over the
fire
it's crispy when i took a bite out of it
it tastes horrible
the next day
we ride in the back
of the pickup
haul the boat
to the dock
we see Darik
and his family
we load the boat
in the water
and drive away
we get by a cove
put our life jackets
on and SPLASH!
we float
when we leave
we put our lifejackets
on the motor cover
we look back
one lifejacket
flew away
we were sad
went for a ride
in the boat
life is good
on the Missouri river
in Nebraska

Ode to Nebraska

Snowmobiling
like a coyote
running
across a prairie
four wheeling
like a monster
tearing up the sand

Nebraska's

Capital- Lincoln
Governor- Pete Ricketts
Bird- beautiful, majestic, Meadowlark
Flower- crazy golden rod
sprouting up everywhere
known- hunting, like a mountain lion tracking a gopher
Nebraska, one of kind state
